Alakshmi is the older sister of Lakshmi, the Hindu Goddess of Good Fortune. Alakshmi is the complete opposite of her beautiful sibling. She is considered a Goddess of Misfortune. It is generally believed that where there is trouble, poverty, misery, and calamity, there is Alakshmi. Before you can fully appreciate the Goddess Lakshmi, you must first reckon with her sibling, Alakshmi. Then, it will be time to begin the process of saying good-bye and releasing Alakshmi from your life.
This ebook guides you to courageously acknowledge your own dark sides, open yourself to their lessons, and discover ways to embrace, heal, and release the darkness.
Alakshmi is a metaphor for aspects of life on earth that most of us have a very tough time coming to terms with. She’s the personification of the darker side of human nature and of human strife. When she’s got you hooked, you may not even know what hit you. Yet imagine how powerful it would be to consider Alakshmi one of those famous “blessings-in-disguise,” who comes to teach you about how, when, where, and why you sabotage yourself and bring certain misfortunes upon yourself into your life. And who brilliantly points out all the people, places and things -- all the nouns in your life -- which you must leave behind in order to grow.
Banishing Alakshmi is not a job for the weak-hearted. Although she is a Goddess most people want to just get rid of, she doesn’t leave that easily (and she doesn’t get too far away) if we do not first open to her lessons and learn to embrace her. This means we have to be willing to feel the pain, fear, humiliation and vulnerability in order to move past her exploits and grow. We will never know the “absolute cause” of every single “bad,” devastating or annoying thing that happens in life, but a willingness to consider our own role in life’s misfortunes means we’ve got one up on Alakshmi.
For the sake of experiment, it might be fun to consider that every Alakshmi-type of disaster in life -- financial stress, health problems, relationship horrors, and craziness of the job -- is actually an opportunity to look inside ourselves to see if there are any hungry ghosts hiding. See it as a chance to do an emotional, psychological, spiritual realty check on any tendency to wreak havoc in our own lives through negative patterns, lies, refusal to take personal responsibility, bad or impulsive decision-making, unresolved issues of all kinds. An important component of this experiment is to entertain the concept that acknowledging the truth is the first step to making new choices about how you want life to be.
